Then there’s Ferguson, the real resistance. The Ferguson sparked by oppressed young people, where black, white, young, old, gay, straight, christian, muslim, blood and crip stood together. The Ferguson that was about seeking justice for Michael Brown, Vonderrit Myers, Cary Ball and a long list of black people unjustly killed by police… the Ferguson that exposed decades of municipal corruption, targeting of black citizens for excessive ticketing and the absentee ballot hustle. The Ferguson where state senators Jamilah Nasheed put Bob McCulloch on notice and Maria Chappelle Nada told the sitting Governor to go fuck himself. The Ferguson where hardcore community activists weathered seasons to protest the establishment in the streets and in the legislature… where protesters like Rasheen Alderidge and Bruce Franks took down one of the most corrupt political dynasties and put black misleadership on notice… the Ferguson that cultivated voices like Darren Seals, Sarah Kendzior, Reynaldo Anderson, myself and Tishaura Jones. The Ferguson that resulted in Missouri’s own billion dollar sports owner Sam Kronke turning down a $2 billion dollar new stadium and moving the St. Louis Rams to LA, essentially telling the establishment they could kiss where the sun don’t shine. The Ferguson embodied in the name of Michael Brown’s org, “Chosen for Change”.
